FULL-SCALE MEMBER SURVEYS
Every market
COVERED ACROSS THE MEMBERSHIP
At a glance. Client: the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Scope: two full-scale member surveys covering every market the association serves, with several hundred respondents. Deliverables: a member needs analysis, an education preferences study, and findings presented to the association's board.
The Challenge
An association depends on members believing it is worth belonging to. Leadership needed to hear directly from members what they needed from the organization and what kind of education they would value, instead of relying on the loudest voices in the room.
What We Did
I designed and ran two separate full-scale survey projects for GFOA's members. The first was a needs analysis: what members needed from the organization, where it was delivering, and where it fell short. The second focused on education: the topics, formats, and delivery members wanted. For each study, I analyzed the results and presented the findings to the association's board.
What It Means
Boards make better decisions when they look at member data instead of anecdotes. The same research approach now informs Orr Consulting's work with associations and industry groups, from member needs to industry-wide customer research.
