CONVERSIONS, EXPERT REVIEW VS. POLISHED ADS

PER PLATFORM-REPORTED CONVERSION
At a glance. Client: a premium direct-to-consumer brand selling a high-consideration product at a four-figure price (anonymized). Role: Chief Marketing Officer. Team: design, writing, Shopify development, PR, paid media, influencers, SEO, CRM, Pinterest, tracking, and site testing.
The Challenge
Buyers of an expensive product they can't touch before purchase need a reason to trust it. The brand had professional creative and a full marketing team, and it needed to know which kind of proof actually moved buyers.
What We Did
As CMO, I led the cross-functional team and ran a direct comparison inside one ad account in April 2026. Polished Performance Max and Demand Gen campaigns ran alongside a paid placement amplifying an independent review by a respected expert in the product's category.
Results
The two polished campaigns spent $1,047 combined and produced no conversions. The expert-review placement spent $2,238 and produced 627 platform-reported conversions, at $3.57 each.
What It Means
For considered purchases, independent proof from a credible third party now outperforms polished brand creative. This campaign is one of the field cases behind my research on the Polish Paradox.
