CLINICAL ROLES REPRESENTED
At a glance. Client: Midmark Dental. Focus: the launch of a 3D dental X-ray imaging system. Methods: more than 25 in-depth clinician interviews with dentists, periodontists, and hygienists, followed by a survey of more than 250 respondents. Deliverables: positioning, message testing, creative direction, product and software decision support, pricing recommendations, and executive presentations. Outcome: research that, in Midmark's words, directly shaped its positioning and go-to-market strategy.
Executive Summary
Midmark was bringing a 3D dental X-ray system to market and needed to know how dentists, periodontists, and hygienists would weigh it against the systems already in their operatories. I led the dental market research and carried it through to positioning, messaging, pricing recommendations, and the executive readout.
The Challenge
Imaging equipment is a large capital decision made by clinicians who are busy, skeptical of vendor claims, and loyal to workflows that already work. The launch team needed to understand the barriers to switching, which capabilities mattered in daily practice, and how the product's technical strengths would translate into language a practice owner would trust.
Research and Diagnosis
I ran more than 25 in-depth interviews with dental clinicians, including specialist input from periodontists and hygienists, and followed them with a survey of more than 250 respondents. The interviews surfaced the workflow realities and buying concerns. The survey sized how widely those concerns held and which benefits carried the most weight.
What We Did
The findings fed positioning and message testing, creative concept direction, product and software decision support, and pricing recommendations, all brought together in executive presentations for the leadership team.
Results
Midmark's team credited the research with directly shaping the positioning and go-to-market strategy for the launch.
What It Means
For medical and dental technology companies, the clinician's own language is the most persuasive material a launch team has. Research done well becomes the messaging.
